Alex Khoury, Visual Artist
I’m a self-taught artist based in Aberdeen, Scotland, working primarily in oil, watercolour, pencil and ink. My work is currently inspired by the Scottish landscape and heritage—its historic strength, shifting light, and sense of mystique—though I enjoy letting my practice evolve beyond any single theme.
Much of my work begins outdoors. I love exploring peaceful and inspiring locations across the Scottish countryside, often combining hiking or rucking with quick sketches and reference photography. You can really feel yourself almost go back in time, exploring old military roads, ancient farms and historic landmarks.
Back in the studio, I use these studies to explore texture, atmosphere, and composition, allowing each piece to develop organically through the process. My most favoured medium is oils for their dynamic pliability, and I also enjoy creating with charcoal, watercolour, ink and mixed media techniques.
Art has been a creative outlet for me for many years, running alongside a career in plastic surgery. I’m fascinated by process—how a painting changes, how techniques evolve, and how experiences in a place can be translated into something shared. One of the most rewarding parts of my practice is connecting with people who recognise or feel a personal connection to the landscapes I paint, whether at exhibitions or through my Etsy shop.
I sell original oil and watercolour paintings, as well as high-quality giclée prints and art cards, offering pieces at a range of price points. Commissions are welcomed by arrangement.

“Ideas for the great majority of my paintings are born out in the countryside on hikes or runs. Exploring the outdoor has been a passion of mine for some time and a single walk can result in several paintings and drawings. I enjoy being able to lock the memory in paint”
